National Quality Healthcare Award
In 2009, we received the National Quality Healthcare Award from the National Quality Forum (NQF). The NQF is a unique, multi-stakeholder organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of American healthcare by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement.
National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award
Memorial Hermann received the National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award. Based on quantitative safety results, this award recognizes health systems that place the highest value on patient safety. Our relentless focus on continuous improvement continues to lead to other awards and recognition. We'd like to share some of those with you now.
Eisenberg Patient Safety Award
Memorial Hermann was awarded the 2012 Eisenberg Patient Safety Award. Presented by the National Quality Forum (NQF) and The Joint Commission, the award recognizes us as a leader in delivering safe, effective healthcare with a patient-centered focus. Memorial Hermann is the first health system in Texas to earn this distinction. We salute our employees and affiliated physicians who have made this achievement possible through their attention to high-reliability behaviors, evidence-based care and harm prevention. We are proud of the effect our patient safety and quality successes are having on raising the standard of care across our system and across the nation.
U.S. News & World Report: America's Best Hospitals
U.S. News & World Report published its annual list of America’s Best Hospitals, ranking Memorial Hermann among the top 50 for rehabilitation for the 25th consecutive year, at No.3. Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital was ranked No. 25 in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Several other Memorial Hermann hospitals were recognized as among the best in Houston and considered “high-performing” in certain specialties, including:
- Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center – Cancer, gastroenterology & GI surgery, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
- Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital – Diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology.
- Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital – Orthopedics.

Memorial Hermann Named One of the Nation's Top 5 Large Health Systems
Memorial Hermann was named one of the Top 5 Large Health Systems in the nation according to the 15 Top Health Systems study by Truven Health (formerly Thomson Reuters), a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care. Memorial Hermann was the only hospital system in Houston and one of only two in Texas named among the nation’s top 15 health systems. The prominent award is based on criteria such as clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Foster G. McGaw Finalist for Excellence in Community Service
Memorial Hermann was named a finalist of the 2013 Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service, one of the most esteemed community service honors in health care. The Foster G. McGaw Prize is sponsored by The Baxter International Foundation and the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Health Research & Educational Trust. Memorial Hermann was recognized for its innovative community health initiatives, including Health Centers for Schools, Mobile Dental Clinic, ER Navigation, Psych Response Team and Interfaith Community Clinic.
Memorial Hermann Hospitals Receive Gold & Silver TMF Quality Improvement Awards
Memorial Hermann Northwest, Memorial Hermann Southeast, Memorial Hermann Southwest and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospitals have received the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Gold Award from TMFreg; Health Quality Institute, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Texas. TMF established the awards program in partnership with The Texas Hospital Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals and Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. The system's remaining five acute care hospitals received Silver Awards.
Bill Aston Award for Quality
Memorial Hermann received the Texas Hospital Association 2011 Bill Aston Award for Quality. Established in 2010, the THA award recognizes measurable success in improving quality and patient outcomes through the sustained implementation of a national and/or state evidence-based patient care initiative. The recognition comes thanks to the hard work and dedication of employees and affiliated physicians, in a commitment to reduce the incidence of healthcare-associated infections.
