While Medicare Advantage plans offer the same benefits as Original Medicare and are also regulated by the government, there are many differences between the two.
For one, Medicare Advantage plans are run by private insurance companies and can offer benefits that Original Medicare does not cover such as prescription drug (Part D) coverage, a maximum cap on out-of-pocket expenses, and additional benefits like dental, vision and hearing coverage, as well as fitness benefits.
Also, a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan like Memorial Hermann Medicare Advantage, is a type of Medicare Advantage Plan that usually provides health care coverage from doctors, specialists, or hospitals in the plan's network, except in an emergency or urgent care situation. While coverage options differ for each Medicare Advantage plan, costs and limits also vary with private insurance company plans. When choosing your Medicare coverage, you should consider plan costs, plan doctors, convenience, your lifestyle and your current health care needs.
Like most Medicare Advantage plans, Memorial Hermann Medicare Advantage HMO provides you with added benefits (at no extra cost) and, in some cases, also lower coverage costs. Additional benefits include, but are not limited to, prescription drug (Part D) coverage, dental benefits, hearing and vision allowances, access to telehealth services and a maximum cap on out-of-pocket costs, along with national/worldwide urgent care and emergency coverage.
Some plans charge an additional premium for their Medicare Advantage plan, meaning that you pay both your Part B premium and your private insurance plan’s premium each month. With the Memorial Hermann Advantage HMO plan starting at a $0 monthly premium, you only have to pay your required Part B premium every month, unless you select a plan with a premium like our Medicare Advantage Plus HMO.
The Memorial Hermann Medicare Advantage HMO plan is backed by the Memorial Hermann Health System — a name Houstonians have known and trusted for more than 100 years. With a Memorial Hermann Advantage HMO plan, you get a high level of care near where you live or work, because Memorial Hermann has numerous facilities throughout the city, including hospitals, imaging centers, specialty institutes and more.
If you're currently on Original Medicare, or on Original Medicare combined with a Medigap or other supplemental plan, a Medicare Advantage plan could save you money and provide you with added benefits.
